Apple
Valley Country Club is the oldest and most storied golf
course in the High Desert. Apple Valley Country
Club’s golf course has a time-honored reputation
for playing conditions, the “purest putting surfaces
in Southern California” and weather that allows
for play 365 days a year. The golf course boasts
a fine balance of par 3s and par 4s with some “especially
fun” par 5s on a “walking friendly” golf
course. The course plays to a maximum length of
6,805 yards, par 71 and rated by SCGA at a rating of
72.3/123.
Apple Valley Country Club was established in the mid 1940s
by Newton “Newt” T. Bass and Bernard J. “Bud” Westlund,
oil field wildcatters who are widely considered to have
created Apple Valley, California. Their pioneering
spirit and foresight resulted in successful real estate
development opportunities, including this 18 hole equity
owned private country club in the Victorville/Apple Valley
area of Southern California’s High Desert. Opened
for play in 1948, the golf course was designed by William
F. Bell, more commonly known as Billy Bell Jr., a mid 1900s
renowned golf course architect who designed and built in
excess of 50 golf courses including California Country
Club, Country Club at Ranch Bernardo & Rancho Bernardo
Inn, La Cumbre Country Club, Mesa Verde Country Club, Newport
Beach Country Club, Red Hill Country Club and Saticoy Country
Club.
The community of Apple Valley was a long-time home of
Roy Rogers and Dale Evans whose mere presence encouraged
an eclectic group of celebrities from Red Skelton and Anthony
Quinn to Raymond Burr, Dale Robertson and Desi Arnaz and
many noted professional golfers including golf’s
legendary Lloyd Mangrum, a 36-time winner on the PGA Tour,
to find their way to Apple Valley Country Club for the
clean air quality, ideal climate and a myriad of experiences
that make Apple Valley far more than just a place.
