Tennis & Golf Hall of Famers Team Up
Tennis great Jack Kramer and PGA legends Ernie Vossler and Johnny
Pott
combine talents
Chino, Calif. – October 11, 2005 -- The North Course at Los
Serranos Country Club in Chino Hills is in Phase Two of its golf
course renovation and is benefiting from the talents and expertise
of its owner, tennis Hall of Fame member Jack Kramer, along with
Johnny Pott, Landmark Golf’s Executive Vice President
and three time US Ryder Cup Team member, and PGA of America Hall
of Fame member Ernie Vossler, Landmark’s Chairman of the Board.
Jack Kramer, known for being an exceptional promoter and thoughtful
innovator, has enlisted the resources and vast expertise of Landmark Golf to continue the modernization one of California’s
oldest golf courses.
In a time span of only 21 days, renovations and upgrades to the
80 year old North Course will be implemented. This facelift of new
tee boxes, additional fairway bunkers, renovated greenside bunkers,
and an upgraded mowing pattern will enhance yet modernize this rare
traditional layout. Play will not be interrupted while work is being
done.
An addition of particular note is a sod-wall bunker being added
to the 16th hole. This unique feature, made famous by the one found
on the Road Hole at St. Andrews in Scotland, will be the only one
of its kind in Southern California. Sod-wall bunkers are known for
often forcing the golfer to play a shot simply to get out of the
bunker, but not advancing the ball towards the hole. Sod-wall bunkers
present a distinctive challenge to any golfer and are a rarity in
the United States.
This freshening of the North Course at Los Serranos County Club
is the latest trend in modernizing golf courses, making them more
competitive, and keeping them in step with a game impacted greatly
by equipment that has been enhanced by technology. Landmark Golf has been at the pioneering forefront of this trend which
requires minimal costs, necessitates no stopping of play, and offers
a rapid turnaround with work being completed, changes implements
and grow-in completed in less
than 6 weeks.
“We knew that the North Course could be improved and upgraded,”
says Jack Kramer, former US Open and Wimbledon Champion. “Landmark Golf showed us how this could be done at nominal cost and
in a very short amount of time. Our play has not been interrupted,
and golfers have enjoyed watching these rapid, yet significant changes
come to life. Our North Course has been upgraded, but her character
and tradition remains intact.”
“Los Serranos will get the best of all worlds with these
course improvements,” offers Johnny Pott. “The course
maintains its original flavor and feel, but it is modernized to
keep it competitive and challenging. We are seeing this innovative
trend in course maintenance and rejuvenation gain in popularity.
It is the most cost effective, practical, and time efficient investment
to be made in existing golf courses today.”
Our goal at Los Serranos Country Club has always been to be the
finest public golf facility in the country,” notes Jack Kramer.
“The work being done by Landmark Golf on the North Course
will allow us to maintain and continue our tradition.”
