With
more than 2,500 master planned acres for more than 3,000 residences,
PGA West was envisioned, designed, built and operated by Landmark;
it is the largest single development in the Palm Springs area.
In 1986, the Pete Dye designed TPC Stadium Course captured
international attention with Lee Trevino’s hole-in-one
on #17 “Alcatraz,” in the first of six consecutive
Skins Games at PGA West. The Arnold Palmer Course is an annual
site of the Bob Hope Chrysler Classic. Two golf courses designed
by Jack Nicklaus boosted the lineup to 72 holes with additional
courses planned by Landmark for future development. The overall
development includes private and resort clubhouses, 19 tennis
courts and a tennis clubhouse. In 1984, Landmark sold virtually
all of the project’s developable 1,050 residential acreage
to Sunrise Company. The PGA West master plan included a 20
acre site zoned for commercial use and a hotel site zoned
for 1,000 rooms.
